[...] A normal tailpiece is way too short for my bass, so the Upton guys made a new one for me. I was using the Marvin tailpiece and Gary suggested I try a tailpiece with more mass to get me closer to the sound I want. I already told you that I liked what the Marvin tailpiece did to my sound, so I wait with baited breath to hear what this will do to my sound. [...]

Where did you order the Marvin Tailpiece? I hve been searching, but unable to find one. my teacher recently put one on and loves it. what specific changes did the tailpeice bring out? I love the tone of my bass, but would like for it to respond easier on the E string. does it change the tone on the extension or any at all? thanks

[...] Rumano took the top off last summer and an area on the upper bout of the table’s treble side seemed as though it may have seen an already troubled area exacerbated by the work. There is a very obvious crack or seam (I can’t be sure) that was fine inside the purfling, but never very stable outside the purfling. I had meant to tack it in better with some hide glue, but never did. The table had seen some compaction on the edge from load-in and -out of my car. Well, the very corner’s gone now, following the pre-existing line on the vertical and a new break on the horizontal. It had been gone for days before I discovered it. My friends and colleagues assumed I knew it had happened and never mentioned it. I cannot find the missing piece and will have to have it rebuilt. I do not plan on having the top removed for this work. [...]

Anders -

Thanks for the compliment!

The bass has a pine top and chestnut ribs|back|scroll. One of my favorite aesthetic features of the bass is the deep brown color of the unfinished neck.

If your drummer is sensitive, this could be a great bass. It doesn't have the focused projection of some of the other basses in town, but it is loud and has a smooth sound, getting better with age.

Rumano was selling them for $16,000 when I ordered mine. Last I spoke with him (about 7 months ago), the wait was approximately 1 year.
